Micah Magnusson-- Courage and Sadness Together

I didn't know the Magnusson family of Haslett until I became familiar with the story of their son Micah in the spring of 2007.  He was a terrific football player for the Vikings his senior year in the fall of 2006.  How horrible it was on May 27th, the day of his senior open house, he suffered a brain bleed and nearly died that night.

Micah finally did pass away suddenly Wednesday in Haslett, leaving three brothers, a sister and his parents to grieve and celebrate his courage at the same time.  He was 23 and I do not have funeral arrangements yet.  His high school coach, Charlie Otlewski, was so upset Wednesday he cancelled a radio interview to promote his team's opening game Friday against East Lansing.

The Haslett community rallied around the Magnussons over the years with fund raisers to help defray the cost of Micah's care.  He was paralyzed and left speechless but they all stayed together and did the best they could with his lifestyle under difficult circumstances to say the least.  I remember how horrified I was at the time because we had a kid Micah's age graduating at the same time and I remember his open house-- and how it must be like for a family planning to celebrate a joyous occasion and having to cope with such an event.

It's a religious family-- Micah was to attend Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.  I suspect their faith will get them through another difficult time.  God Bless them.

The Magnusson family is lying heavily on my heart. The service was beautiful today... What a courageous and faithful young man! He had planned to work for the Lord through ministry -- little did he know how much impact he would have on thousand of lives for Christ through these years! Micah, you were a good and faithful servant -- well done!! To Sherrie, Dale, and the rest of the family -- God bless you over and over for your faith and perseverence! I pray that you may have "peace that transcends all understanding." And Anna Woita -- I'm praying for you too, sweet girl!!
