I don't know quite how Michigan State picks its football captains each season-- it always seems to change in terms of numbers. The Spartans introduced tri captains Thursday and ironically all three were chosen to attend the Big Ten media days last month in Chicago.
Quarterback Andrew Maxwell has not started a game, but he's the man for the offense and he was properly humble when asked about it after practice Thursday. Linebackers Chris Norman and Max Bullough lead the defense and Bullough would likely be named next season as well. It's a different group from the past since Kirk Cousins was a captain for three seasons and he's gone of course. Norman is the lone senior.
MSU coach Mark Dantonio says the biggest key to their leadership is how they do when times are tough-- that's when captains have to pick their teammates up. We'll see.
