On a nice summer day the Spartans and Wolverines were smiling at each other Monday. They were at Eagle Eye, the two athletic directors and several of their current and former athletes. Mark Hollis and David Brandon put together a little for fun golf outing they'd planned back in the spring.
It doesn't mean much other than they wanted to do something together in the off season beyond the rigors of competing, when the varsity teams begin play against each other through the regular school year. They lobbed bouquets at each other at an informal pre-tournament news conference and they each picked four good players to help them during their day.
They were both asked about the Ohio State situation, not much of a comment from either until they see how the Buckeyes make out with the NCAA and that's due after an August 12th hearing.
The highlight was watching Michigan's Jay Feely hitting balls warming up with a wire in his ear. He was on a conference call with the NFL players getting details of the new labor agreement. Feely is the kicker for the Arizona Cardinals but he spends his off seasons in Michigan and played in Monday's event. Now it's back to Arizona for him and the rest of the league.
