Because I don't think the league's very strong it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Michigan State won the women's Big Ten basketball tourney. It begins Thursday in Indianapolis and the 5th seed Spartans get to crush Indiana for the third time this season. Indiana finished 1-15 in league play. I see five teams with no chance to win the title-- Northwestern, Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin, besides the Hoosiers. Penn State won the regular season title but lost twice to the Spartans.
If Michigan State faced Penn State a third win this season would be tough-- Penn State would have plenty of motivation. But the Spartans are good enough to advance in this tournament and make the NCAA tournament field. And it doesn't seem accurate to me that MSU is not even mentioned in the national polls.
This is not a great MSU women's team but it also has an 11-5 league record and is looking at 20 wins and while it may not be top 25 calibre it is certainly top 40 I believe.
