It will be a different looking team, but bet on it-- Michigan State will have a good men's basketball team again next season if for no other reason than Tom Izzo always has a good team. It will be his 18th year as head coach and his four incoming freshmen will have ample opportunity for playing time. Of the 44 points scored in the Louisville game, 30 of them graduate, led by captain Draymond Green and he of course will be tough to replace.
So will Austin Thornton and Brandon Wood, both of whom had their moments when the Spartans were in the hunt for the Big Ten title. MSU finally ran out of gas for a variety of reasons, but I never thought it was a team that would win the national title. I wasn't sure about the Final Four-- I thought the weekend in Phoenix would be tough and Louisville proved me right.
The 29-8 record was good-- Big Ten titles and all that-- only one team wins the national title and the Spartans will need better, more athletic players, I believe, to make a more serious run in the future. But this was a good team, and a good year and we'll let it go at that.
