MSU Softball-- What's Going On?

When Michigan State spent nearly $1 million for its new Secchia softball stadium, the pressure on the program to improve immediately rose two years ago.  The Spartans finished 27-27 in the stadium's inaugural season last spring and this year it's been a nightmare.  MSU is 0-15 in the Big Ten with three more losses likely coming this week end at Nebraska.  And MSU likely will lose Tuesday night at Notre Dame and if that all pans out MSU would be 11-37 on the season with eight games remaining, all at home.  Northwestern and Indiana each visit Secchia Stadium next month-- can MSU win a league game?  And will Jacquie Joseph survive as head coach?  She told me she plans to be back next season but that if she can't win next year she'd have to consider stepping aside, agreeing that higher expectations now come with the program's stadium.

I have no idea what the future holds for MSU softball, but watching a few innings against Iowa the other day-- this program looks a long way from being decent in the Big Ten.  MSU has already lost 11 straight and 17 of the last 18 and as the coach hinted, things may get worse before they get better, hard as that is to imagine.
