MSU Hoops on Eve of the NBA Draft

I spent some time in the Breslin Center Wednesday.  I met newcomer Brandon Wood who transferred in from Valparaiso and will have one season with the Spartans.  He told me in no uncertain terms his goal is to make the NBA draft next year so he obviously wants a high qualify Spartan season.  Other players, Kearney, Dawson, Payne, they were hanging out.  They were in uniform but they can't work the kids camp that is on going.  That's against NCAA rules.  They lifted weights and some slept and took naps in the luxurious locker room.

Tom Izzo stopped by.  He's not sure if Kalin Lucas or Durrell Summers will be chosen in Thursday's two round NBA draft.  He believes Lucas has a lucrative offer in Europe if he slips through the cracks.  He'll watch the NBA draft which begins at 7:30pm Thursday on ESPN.

Tom and his staff, which now includes Dane Fife, head out in July to watch summer camps and players involved.  Fife told me it's a great way to identify future talent.  The coaches will be gone 20 days and Fife figures the NCAA rules on such long traveling in the summer time could get altered.

Then it poured rain and we were stranded inside while we waited the showers out.  Kids and parents came and went with the parking lot filled, another summer of Spartan basketball camps.
