Mark Dantonio I think, truly believes Andrew Maxwell will give him a quality performance at quarterback this fall. He needs to be accurate for the Spartans to repeat for a third straight year with at least 11 wins. Maxwell has precious little experience. But the journey begins Tuesday with five weeks of spring drills. Maxwell doesn't have the receivers Kirk Cousins enjoyed over his three years as a starter. So the five weeks need to find receivers as well. Edwin Baker is gone from the running back corps, so Le'Veon Bell needs some quality back up help, likely from either Larry Caper, Nick Hill or perhaps both. MSU has a tougher schedule this fall beginning at home August 31st against Boise State on ESPN at 8pm.
I still think MSU can contend for the Big Ten title-- Nebraska and Michigan look like the strongest challengers in the Legends Division where MSU represented the league in the Big Ten title game last December before losing to Wisconsin in Indianapolis. The Leaders Division side would favor Ohio State but the Buckeyes are ineligible to play in the Big Ten title game so now it's wide open again with Iowa and Wisconsin among the favorites.
