Watching Matt Stafford play Saturday night-- the New England Patriots likely don't want to see him again. Stafford has been sensational in three pre season games-- and yes they are exhibition games and yes the Patriots had some key defensive players out of the lineup-- but I think Stafford has talent. It's amazing he's as sharp as he seems to be having only played 13 of 32 regular season NFL games. Injuries have hampered his first two NFL seasons as everyone knows but if he stays healthy and can play all 16 games-- I think the Lions can make the playoffs.
They simply have better players at a number of positions. They do need running back help and that is a concern because of injuries, but every NFL team has to deal with these problems through the course of the year. The Lions seem to have a little swagger too. They have one more pre season game Thursday at Buffalo and they should win that. And while they've been 4-0 in pre season games before, maybe this year things will be different once the games count. They've struggled to find a quarterback who can lead them and Stafford seems to be the guy-- if he can stay healthy, certainly a big if.
