In South Bend, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick has not returned phone calls. The media is anxious to learn about football coach Brian Kelly. He is out of the country somewhere. He reportedly met with the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles Tuesday, hours after the Irish lost the BCS title game to Alabama.
Is the 51-year old Kelly serious about perhaps moving on to the NFL? Reportedly he'll meet with the Eagles again. And the Chicago Bears, again reportedly, want to talk with Kelly. He has only spent three years in South Bend and has a 28-11 record. ND reportedly wants to give Kelly a revised contract and maybe that's what he's angling for in the first place.
But we were all surprised when Bret Bielema bolted Wisconsin for Arkansas. Would I be surprised if Kelly, left, absolutely. But in coaching, nothing can be taken for granted at this level and maybe Kelly has had enough-- and then again maybe he hasn't since Notre Dame has the number one recruiting class to sign next month according to Rivals.com.
