It's another great Michigan State idea-- and phooey to those who call the school gimmick ridden. Michigan State understands contemporary marketing and how it can work and playing another basketball game in Jenison Fieldhouse should raise plenty of public interest. Hopefully bleachers can be found that will fit to increase the capacity beyond the expected 6,000. When the last season was playe din 1989, Jenison's official capacity was 10,004. This may be the only game where the balcony is a preferred seat over those on the main floor.
Tuskegee is a suitable opponent and this game is not about finding a tough foe for the Spartans. It's about reinforcing Michigan State's role in building diversity in American and MSU was ahead of other schools which is easy to identify, especially in the north. Having an alumni game on Friday, December 14th is a great idea too-- please Jud come back to make it a truly memorable weekend-- and the women playing on Sunday completes the look.
What a November it will be with MSU playing U Conn in Germany, Kansas in Atlanta, the Big Ten ACC Challenge game in Miami and then a game in Jenison where MSU basketball was built from 1939-89.
