Opening games on high school's first night of the season are chaotic for the players, coaches and fans-- no one really knows what to expect. A lot of new people in new places and the weather is usually good as it is on this year's opening night. It's weird playing two games before Labor Day but it's the weird we live in anymore. It's also hard to imagine the weather being so bad 800 miles to the East when you see what it is around here. We complain about Michigan's weather-- but not now right?
The Sports Blitz returns-- 11:15pm each Friday and it continues through basketball season with a couple of weeks off in between the seasons in November. Football is much tougher-- games don't end until 9:30 and there's more interest than there is in basketball so you try to cover more games. And you have to travel to several games for each photographer-- not always a smooth task.
Then you get back in house with about 90 minutes to assemble 14 games and interviews, and script and write cut lines and rehearse, etc. It ain't easy and never has been. When a show ends up being very good-- as we thought they all were last year-- it's a great feeling and the 15 minutes of air time sure does go fast. Welcome to Sports Blitz 2011-- hope you're with us all season.
