I think it's easier to pick basketball and football winners -- a bit more predictability when games are played. Picking hockey and baseball winners is much more of a guessing game -- I think. Just think the 8th seed Los Angeles Kings won the Stanley Cup. And they didn't play in the regular season nearly as effectively as they did in the playoffs last spring.
Everyone thought the Tigers would win the World Series and maybe they still will. But they were feeble offensively in two games in San Francisco and the only for sure thing now is if the Tigers are to win it all they'll have to do it on the West Coast. Who knows what to expect in the Comerica Park games which begin Saturday night. But I'll bet the offense is much better even though the weather will be much colder.
Teams get hot and not at almost any time and over a long season that's usually the case for them all. There's no guarantee the good fortunes will continue for the Giants -- but there's no guarantee the Tigers will turn it all around either. So game three should be mighty intriguing Saturday night and I hope Anibal Sanchez can pitch effectively for the Tigers' sake in cold weather.
