This has not been a typical Michigan/Michigan State week and I knew it would be unique from years past. The Tigers and Lions have seen to it that fan attention has been diverted elsewhere. The Lions enjoyed the attention Monday night with their win over the Bears; the Tigers took over through the middle of the week and fans are excited about both teams even though the Tigers lost the opening games in Texas.
Michigan and the Spartans are a big deal, mainly because they both have good records and the Wolverines are unbeaten and ranked 10th in the nation, whether they deserve to be there or not. And it will be wild on Saturday, but on Sunday the Lions get center stage again no matter who wins in East Lansing. And the Tigers and Lions will still be dominant, most likely, into next week, especially the Lions who have another home game after San Francisco, this Sunday, with Atlanta. The Lions then play at Denver and is it possible they could be 8-0 at mid season?
Crowded out? Attention to high school football, especially in this area and any other prep sport. There just isn't enough to go around because of the big name teams and it's been a long time since the Tigers and Lions both captured the fans' interest. Oh yeah, and don't forget Midnight Madness with the basketball Spartans Friday night.
