The end of the high school sports year is at hand and it will be mostly quiet around mid Michigan. State championships will be contested in softball and baseball in Battle Creek with semi-finals set for Friday. No mid Michigan teams are in the field in either sport and that's usually not the case.
Soccer titles will be determined Saturday-- again no mid Michigan teams are in the finals in the four divisions for these girls. Lansing Christian was knocked out in the semi-finals and had the Pilgrims won Wednesday they'd have played for the title at Mason. That leaves golf-- and four boys teams are still activie-- East Lansing, DeWitt, Lansing Catholic and Fowler. Fowler is at MSU's Akers East, the other three are out of town. All could contend for the state title. Whether any win or not won't be known until late Saturday afternoon.
Football practice begins in early August so the summer will go fast as it always does and then another prep sports season will be under way.
