There were about 20 candidates-- and among those mentioned the most was former Waverly High School star Danton Cole who most MSU hockey followers thought was going to land as the replacement for Rick Comley. Cole seemed like a good fit, but Tom Anastos, the CCHA Commissioner faces an uncertain future with the league because the three Big Ten schools are about to leave because of the addition of Penn State to the hockey world.
Anastos is 46 and has vast college hockey experience. I saw him in Ann Arbor a week and a half ago at the Michigan/Bowling Green playoff series where he was texting to MSU athletic director Mark Holis and told him he saw me there. Anastos faces a far more secure future with the Spartans behind their bench than he does running a league with an uncertain future.
I think he'll do well because he is affable and he knows the landscape well and he certainly knows all of the CCHA schools. Now who becomes the commissioner of the league? That's the next question at this point.
