Five teams now stand atop the Big Ten men's basketball standings with two losses apiece and Michigan holds a one half game lead at 5-2; Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue and Illinois are all 4-2 and the Illini gave up sole possession of first place Thursday night with a 54-52 loss at last place Penn State. So to me it's still Ohio State and Michigan State most likely to finish 1-2 by the time March rolls around and they meet at the Breslin Center March 4th to end the regular season.
This is such a homecourt sport especially at the major college level. It is so hard for big time teams to win on the road anymore, mainly because there is so much parity. The star college players are in the NBA by the time they are juniors whether they belong there or not.
Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and maybe Minnesota and Purdue will all have their moments at home-- but they all struggle so much on the road and who wins on the road the most, as usual in my mind, is the team that not only will win the league title but will have the best chance to advance the fathest in the NCAA tournament.
