My prediction of Michigan State winning the men's Big Ten basketball title in March just took a standing eight count. And it's not that MSU is bad or anything-- but some of these other conference teams look better than I thought. They haven't played that much nor many good teams, but the Spartans could have trouble with a number of them during the regular season.
Michigan State gets little offense from Nix and Payne and now they won't play together we hear. MSU better hope Keith Appling doesn't get hurt or in foul trouble because he and freshman Gary Harris are the offense. I think Brendan Dawson will come around and he has plenty of talent but this is a team woefully thin on depth because the lesser players simply haven't made much of an impact and I doubt they will.
But I'll hold with MSU as a lock contender for the league title at the moment-- the next four should be wins right? Nichols State, Arkansas Pine Bluff, Loyola of Chicago and Tuskegee. That's quite a foursome. That makes it a 9-2 record and bring on an over-ranked Texas team.
