Watching the NCAA softball super Regionals-- wow you really need a super pitcher and if you don't have one you don't win. If you do have one you can win without much else, even in the NCAA tournament. Michigan is playing at top ranked Alabama in a best of three Super Regionals series and one minute into watching the Alabama pitcher, I knew Michigan's would struggle.
The Wolverines scored in the 6th inning and lost 4-1 but did have the tying run at the plate in the 7th-- and then she struck out. Alabama's pitcher is very good-- the Tide are ranked number one in the nation right? Michigan's pitcher is okay but not great and playing on the road she won't get many runs behind her. So she better just about be a shutout pitcher-- which she isn't.
Baseball is different-- teams are good or bad depending on who pitches, game to game. Softball is different because of the arm motion. Michigan likely will lose game two Friday night and be done for the season-- Alabama's pitcher is just too good.
