I Remember Allen Bush Well

I was in college when Allen Bush became head of the Michigan High School Athletic Association. He always wore a crew cut and a smile. He was in the military six years and the crew cut fit him well. He was one of only four executive directors of the Michigan High School Athletic Association since it began in 1924. Bush was the second of four. He died Tuesday in Traverse City at age 90. A memorial service will be held at 11am Friday at the Methodist church in Traverse City. Bush gave way to his assistant Vern Norris, who gave way to the current director Jack Roberts.

The MHSAA is located in East Lansing on Coolidge Road at a building which opened in 1996. Bush visited the new site but he was headquartered mostly downtown across the street from the State Capito. He was great to me, a young guy coming up and I did some work for the MHSAA in those days and he was easy to be around.
