Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis briefing the media Wednesday afternoon. He's off to Indianapolis next Tuesday to begin help choosing the 68-team field for the NCAA men's basketball tournament. He's in his first year of a two year hitch as a committee member. But when Michigan State is analyzed he cannot be present in the room with other members.
Hollis says it will be till a meeting in May in Chicago before he has a better clue over whether Michigan State football will compete in the newly designed East or West divisions. And he does not think the Big Ten is going to add past the current 14 schools.
He favors playing the Big Ten women's tournament in the same week and location as the Big Ten men's event because he believes it will help women's attendance. And he told me if the MSU men grab a share of the Big Ten title Sunday night with a win over Northwestern there will not be any kind of a post game celebration. Indiana has clinched a share of the title and needs a win at Michigan Sunday for the Hoosiers to win the title outright. And in June the athletic department makes a formal pitch to the MSU board of trustees for a major renovation in the north end zone of Spartan Stadium to add new locker rooms, meeting rooms, etc.
