It never gets old even though the season seems so short because of the weather. We love going to Northern Michigan as often as possible. My family had home in Charlevoix form the mid 1970s and then bought another after my dad's retirement. When he died in 2004 it was tough for mom to sell the place because of the economy and even though it has changed owners from us in the last five years, we still enjoy staying in Charlevoix at a hotel on Round Lake in the town.
From Belvedere Golf Club, acre for acre northern Michigan's best layout, to the boats in the town harbor, there is simply a majesty about the place. Mackinac Island is next, our second stop in two months on the island. If you go take your bikes it is worth it.
And stay at Grand Hotel however you have to do it and at least once before you die, preferably when the weather is at its best in the middle of summer. It's worth the 4 hour drive to the north. The gas prices I think have kept the crowds down so far this year, but it will still be buzzing in the next couple of weeks through the end of the summer with majestic views of the dunes and the waters all over the lower peninsula. Hope you enjoy it like we have for years.
