Two high school sports weekends remaining and then the school year is over. And Saturday Lansing Catholic and Grand Ledge both host regional tournaments in both baseball and softball. The only Regional winner I see out of the group is Lansing Catholic baseball and if the Cougars win two games Saturday their quarter-final would be Tuesday at MSU's McLane Stadium.
Lansing Catholic won its district in softball, but I don't see the Cougars winning the Regional. And yet ace pitcher Frankie Rider is back from an early season injury and she made a big difference in the district's last weekend. I don't think Grand Ledge baseball can win twice even though the Comets are home. Grand Ledge is 28-5 but the Comets have deficiencies that have hurt them, especially on defense.
Two girls soccer teams were looking to win regional titles Friday night-- Lansing Christian and Mason and both were facing tough games. Eaton Rapids has a shot to win a softball Regional Saturday. Next week we get to the finals in soccer, golf, softball and baseball. Boys golf has the best chance to provide championship teams with a number of good teams and players in the area faring well at the regionals this last week. This is what's left of the school year for the area high schoolers. Enjoy.
