I saw Bill Mory at church Sunday and he told me he was first alternate for the U. S. Senior Open golf championship which begins Thursday at Indianwood in Lake Orion. Maybe clean living helped-- the USGA called Monday and told him a cancellation occured and he's in the 156-man field. He's excited and he should be. Bill is 53 now and he has caddied for his son Chris, an MSU senior who just finished his varsity career. Chris will caddy for his dad this week. Bill owns Meridian Sun Golf Club. His daughter Stephanie played on the Illinois varsity team and now is married and helps run the course. Bill has worked in golf his entire adult life and is former pro at Walnut Hills in East Lansing. His goal is to make the cut. He made the cut at the Michigan Open but this will be a much tougher test.
