I'm happy for Brian Hoyer and what a great story. The MSU quarterback from 2007-08 went undrafted after starting at Michigan State for two seasons. But the New England Patriots signed him as a free agent and he stayed with the team several seasons as a backup to Tom Brady. Hoyer was cut loose last season and spent a bit of time at both Pittsburgh and Arizona. In the off season he signed with his hometown Cleveland Browns, hoping to make the team which he did as the number three at his position.
Wednesday, Browns coach Rob Chudzinski announced Hoyer will start for the Browns Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. Brandon Weedon injured his thumb last week in a loss at Baltimore but the Browns offense has only scored 28 points in the first two games, both Cleveland losses.
Hoyer was always popular at Michigan State. He had a strong arm for his body size. He was great helping me with Sparrow Hospital projects and was always willing to help out. His dad Axel always showed up at our Tailgate shows on radio. Good family and good guy Brian Hoyer. Hope he does well.
