How about that as Mel Allen used to say ... Stony Brook makes the eight team College World Series. And all of those Big Ten teams haven't made it since Michigan back in 1984. Amazing. This school didn't even become division one until 2000. And Stony Brook won its Super Regional in a tough locale, LSU, after a heartbreaking opening loss.
Now if only Kent State can win Monday night at Oregon to join Stony Brook. Kent State is tied and should have won both games but let Sunday night's get away in a 3-2 loss. The Stony Brook story to me is a bigger upset than Virginia Commonwealth, George Mason or Butler in the Final Four. And winning at LSU makes it an even bigger deal.
And Stony Brook is good too. Watching this team it will not be intimidated in Omaha next week. It somewhat disproves the thoery that northern schools have no chance to make Omaha because many many others have far more resources to win in baseball than does Stony Brook, let alone Kent State.
