Spring cannot come to Michigan until the NCAA Selection Show is complete this Sunday night. It's a big deal in Michigan every year because the Spartans always make the NCAA tournament, usually with high expectations. Now Michigan is in the mix too. It's terrific fun to watch the pairings unfold and then spend the rest of the evening listening to endless analysts figure who will win and who will get knocked out. That leads to bracket sheets and tournament office pools, etc. It's all fun and a great way to end the season.
The Big Ten tournament championship game is a great lead in to the main event of the day but reality says that no one cares 15 minutes after that game ends. Then the pairings get announced and everyone concentrates on the NCAA tournament. And the next three days provide plenty of banter across the airwaves about the prospects for each team. And with a wide open field this year, it should be a terrific end to a wild season.
