The Fulton Pirates are a great story and one that is typical of the Boy's State High School Basketball Tournament. The community which includes nearby Middleton will all converge on the Breslin Center at 10am Saturday for the class D state title game. Fulton has never been in the game previously. The road to the Breslin was tough and the semi-final game produced a miraculous comeback Thursday night, against Detroit Westside Christian. Down 53-39, with 5:57 remaining, Fulton somehow went on a 20-2 run with numerous players participating in the scoring and a slew of free throws were made down the stretch.
So Fulton has won 18 straight, many in close situations and the final game against Wyoming Tri Unity Christian will be another toughie. Tri Unity has plenty of tournament experience and would be considered a slight favorite. But, Fulton's players have shocked others throughout the season which featured a CMAC league title. Either way it's been a great run and a great story for a small community which will be dreaming big Friday night on the eve of the title game.
