It is said that come the end of July, college football's 2014 playoff system will be complete. It's apparently a four team set up fromthe current one game, two team affair and there are a number of possibilities that schools across America are considering.
The Rose Bowl is a big key in all this-- because the Big Ten and Pac 12 would like to keep their alliance with that bowl, but I don't see how that is possible if the semi-finals aren't played until after the bowl games, adding more games for four more teams. Or the Rose Bowl can get in the mix three out of every five years... the scenarios are numerous and the Big Ten and Pac 12's desires are probably a key.
I doubt that there will be unanimity once this is all figured out and of course if you have four teams in the playoff, the fifth place team will be mad and everyone expects that. The loudest baloney comes from all who say the "student athletes must be taken into consideration." That's just rhetoric in its highest state. High school teams play 14 games if they make it to Ford Field in Michigan each November so adding more college games should be no problem at all for players who want to reach the NFL where many more games constitute each season.
