My final eyeball test rankings of Big Ten football are exactly the way the standings read in the final Associated Press poll. Four Big Ten teams were ranked in the top 25 on Tuesday and I have them ranked in similar fashion. Wisconsin by a nose over Michigan State with Michigan third and Nebraska fourth. In the final poll Wisconsin is 10th, MSU 11th, Michigan 12th and Nebraska 24th.
Michigan State plays at Michigan next October 20th, obviously a key next fall to who wins the Big Ten's Legends Division title. Michigan finished 11-2, the Big Ten's best winning percentage because it won the Sugar Bowl.
I think all of the league teams have legitimate question marks for next season and for MSU it's the entire passing game. The passer and receivers must be replaced, and that's a lot of unknowns. Maybe Andrew Maxwell will be good and potent by season's end, but replacing the numbers Kirk Cousins has raised, I think, will be challenging. The opening game against 8th ranked Boise State will be much tougher than Youngstown State in this last season's opener.
