It says a lot about Tom Izzo's reputation that he could persuade a division one head coach to become an assistant on his Michigan State staff. But Dane Fife now joins Mike Garland and Dwayne Stephens as Izzo aides. He begins in East Lansing next Monday.
The two like each other-- MSU even played a road game at IPFW a while back and nearly lost. Fife's record isn't great-- 82-97-- but that's not the best place to win basketball games either. Fife will add more credibility to MSU's recruiting efforts and he is well liked. Just think he was a Mr. Basketball from 1998 and the Spartans will have three Mr. Basketball winners on their team next season-- Nix, Appling and Anderson.
The name of the game is attracting good players to any program-- Izzo will tell anyone that and MSU will be as good as the players it can attract and believe that Fife will be active in the recruiting fields trying to find Spartan stars of the future.
