Even Hollis Doesn't Like Baseball Scheduling

My idea for changing the spring sports schedules for college baseball teams isn't quite the same as what MSU athletic director Mark Hollis suggests.  We both agree that the Big Ten is spending a lot of money on facilities for softball and baseball.  I claim the seasons simply should move back one month-- play the College World Series in July not June.  Move the season back to start in mid March.

Hollis told me Friday he favors regular season play in the fall in a two season format, similar to other spring time sports like golf and tennis.  He'd like to see Michigan State play Notre Dame in baseball, for instance, ahead of the football game on a Saturday.  If the game counted he believes it would be a good draw from fans who'd attend both games.  He says nothing is imminent but talk increases over the problems of northern teams trying to play spring sports in lousy weather.
