Maybe I'll be more interested in the size of the crowd Friday night. Sexton at Eastern and Don Johnson Fieldhouse can hold up to 4,000 fans. How many will show up? Eastern Athletic Director David Panici predicts more than 3,000 with a gate of at least $18,000 for the night which beginis at 6pm with the girls game. The girls teams have had awful seasons-- but the boys' teams are ranked number one in the state by the Associated Press in classes A, Eastern and B, Sexton.
Sexton won the earlier meeting by 12 points on its own floor. Eastern is 16-2 and needs a win to share the CAAC Blue title with the Big Reds. I favor Sexton but Eastern is good enough to play with the Big Reds, especially at home.
Eastern will honor its incoming hall of fame class between the two games. There is no pre-sale of tickets but plenty of tickets at the door will be available. It would be something if both went on to win state titles next month in the Breslin Center. There are plenty of future college players to be on the floor that night and it should be the match up of the season in the area for sure.
