Chris Huff tells us he is stepping down as Waverly High School football coach-- ten days before the season opener against Everett. Huff is becoming the school's athletic director and dean of students. The district says he can't do all three jobs. Waverly has not made an official announcement about this, but it has to leave the football team scrambling to get ready for the opener.
Football has been a struggle at Waverly-- seven straight losing seasons including a 3-6 mark last year. Huff came in five seasons ago with high expectations but the Warriors are 9-36 under his direction. Something has to give in the opener-- Waverly, again was 3-6 but Everett was 0-9 so someone gets a disappointing loss and the other gets a much needed win to begin the nine game grind.
