What if Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel had turned in those five players, who are ineligible for five games this fall, last fall? They'd have missed games for sure and maybe Ohio State would not have shared the Big Ten title with Michigan State and Wisconsin. In an MSU and Wisconsin two tie scenario, MSU would have gone to Pasadena on the basis of beating the Buckeyes head to head. In the aftermath, Ohio State may end up forfeiting their games from the 2010 season, leaving MSU in a tie, but it won't do any good now. Whether MSU would have beaten TCU is a question to deal with but I doubt the Badgers, who would have gone to Orlando in MSU's place, would have beaten Alabama right?
Just a hunch, Tressel keeps his job. Ohio State would have fired him by now. The media can wail forever, which many do about how he should be let go but coaches don't get fired based off the media. It's clear Ohio State wants to salvage this coach, and obviously because of his record. The next guy will have a tough time matching Tressel's success whenever he steps down.
