What the Detroit Lions getting into the bowl business? And two bowl games in Detroit? Pinch me. Why the Big Ten wants to change its set up is beyond me, but there appears to be a move to play in a new bowl game against a non MAC team. And the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl wants to stay in business somehow some way after this coming season's game.
That may mean a move across the street to Comerica Park, although I don't think that's a long term solution. Either Ford Field or the Silverdome would be needed-- outdoor football at Christmas just won't make it around here I believe. The Lions have all they can handle in the NFL, so why they want to be the sponsor of a Ford Field revised event remains a mystery.
There has to be a "rest of the story" to what is going on but it appears the Big Ten does not believe a bowl alliance with the MAC makes sense anymore. This one could take a while to unravel but it has to be disconerting to Mike Ilitch, who has kept the current bowl game alive, that the Big Ten no longer wants to do business with his people. Stay tuned as I always say.
