Who knows what kind of senior year Kirk Cousins will have as Michigan State's quarterback. He already has numerous accomplishments including an 11-win season and Big Ten title as a junior. Now he has been elected one of three team captains, along with Trenton Robinson and Joel Foreman, no surprise. What is noteworthy is that Cousins becomes only the second Spartan in the school's 115-year football history to be a three time captain. Bob McCurry was a captain in 1946-47-48 and that covers a lot of territory for those two players.
Cousins drew a standing ovation speaking at the Big Ten luncheon in Chicago last month. He is a hit on the speaking circuit already with his poise and polish. I do believe he has a chance at Heisman trophy contention, but the Spartans of course would have to have a magical year. He mustr avoid injury and opposing teams will be after him. It seems like a long time since he barely was named starter his sophomore year over Keith Nichol as the replacement for the graduated Brian Hoyer.
