It's no surprise. We've known forever, it seems, that Michigan State and North Carolina would play men's basketball on the aircraft carrier on Veteran's Day, November 11th. But it was only officially announced today by the government. Saying no taxpayer dollars are involved and that if the carrier Carl Vinson is needed for a national defense deployment that can happen and the game can be moved elsewhere in San Diego. Either to the Midway, which is a museum carrier in the harbor, or a college gym nearby. ESPN will televise and 40 minutes of air time after the game will be devoted to a concert presented by some one or some group.
North Carolina will be the favorite in the game for sure. MSU spent 7 1/2 years coming up with the concept and finally found a promoter willing to take the financial risk and put the details of the game together. It's a tough stretch for MSU, a football game the next day at Iowa and a basketball game four days afterward in New York against Duke. November will be a busy month.
