Mark Hollis took 15 e-mails while I visited with him in his office for 15 minutes at Jenison Fieldhouse on Thursday. The MSU athletic director is a busy guy. The Spartan football team is home against Minnesota on Saturday so no travel this weekend. He spent two days this week in Chicago at Big Ten meetings.
Next week he's off to San Diego on a charter flight with the men's basketball team for the aircraft carrier game. The team flies home right after the game with a 6am arrival. He immediately boards another private flight to Iowa for the football game with the Hawkeyes which begins at either noon or 3:30pm and it hasn't been announced yet. Then the following week he's in New York for the basketball team for the Madison Square Garden game against Duke.
It's a lot of travel and he knew it when he took the job nearly four years ago. The aircraft carrier game is eight years in the making and he'll decide with Tom Izzo afterward if the experience is worth trying again in two years. MSU has an option to play in the third year of the Carrier Classic after Arizona and UConn meet next year.
