Our three boys and my wife are all golfers.  We've played together for years.  We were gone last week enjoying Northern Michigan-- a few days on gorgeous Belvedere in Charlevoix-- my favorite course.  And a week end soire at Treetops in Gaylord-- 81 holes and plenty of players in gorgeous Friday/Saturday conditions.

    I've had three holes in one-- but none since 1992.  The oldest, Tom, made one in a tournament at the Falcon in East Lansing during his high school years;  the youngest, Patrick, 21, is perhaps the best all around family player and he doesn't have an ace.

     The middle one, Matthew, 23, got his first Saturday at the par 3 7th at Threetops, the par three course.  It was on the 7th hole where Lee Trevino won $1 million in 2001 in the Par 3 Shootout on ESPN.  Matthew's tee shot was a few feet away from where Trevino teed it up.  It was 135 yards with a gap wedge and it spun straight back 10 feet to a pin near the back of the green.  Ironically his girlfriend and grandmother were watching him at the time.  It was a family tournament and I was a hole behind but I heard the roar from them all and knew exactly what happened-- I just didn't know which team member.

     He had to buy drinks that night-- not cheap with the seven of us together.  But plenty of fun nonetheless.
