Depending on how you count the teams in mid Michigan, approximately 19 schools are involved among the 256 in the state high school football playoffs. It all begins Friday night and the premier match up in the area has 9-0 Everett hosting 6-3 East Lansing. At face value this looks like another Everett victory. But will it be?
East Lansing is fresh from a 38-9 win at Okemos and the Trojans gave Everett all it wanted in a 6-0 loss at Everett during the regular season. I think Everett will win again because its defense stifled East Lansing the first time and I don't know if the Trojans have an answer the second time around.
Grand Ledge crushed Holland West Ottawa 31-10 during the regular season and the Comets go on the road to play the same team again. Grand Ledge should win and advance. Lansing Catholic should get past Olivet and then face the Portland/Leslie winner and that could be quite a game. It is a terrific district in division five. Ithaca should win its third straight state title in division 6 and Jackson Lumen Christi is unbeaten and among the favorites in division five.
