Detroit News writer Lynn Henning tells me that Michigan will lose to Alabama and that the game will be a "massacre and a blood letting." I told Lynn I see he's undecided once again. We laughed but I don't see it that way at all.
Michigan gets no respect for this game and the nation will watch in prime time Saturday, September 1st from Dallas. My thinking is that the Big Ten and its fans need Michigan to win. The conference gets little credibility nation wide and if Alabama indeed does win easily, that's another black mark for a marquee Big Ten program of longstanding tradition.
I'm not sure Alabama is all that it's cracked up to be-- at least in the opening game. But we'll see. Michigan has had all these recruits who are so great over the years so when is that going to be displayed on the field in a big game? I guess I'd pick Alabama to win, but I don't think it will be onesided at all and if the Wolverines get clobbered then the Big Ten's gridiron image takes another big perceptional hit.
