Whoever goes to the Rose Bowl, either Nebraska or Wisconsin, should sell out its allotment of tickets. But, after that the other six Big Ten schools may have trouble selling minimums. Times are tough and bowl times have changed dramatically. The Big Ten does not have enough teams for the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl. There are three 6-6 teams, Michigan State, Purdue and Minnesota and all have lukewarm fans. The season just ended and none appear to be excited about heading long distances to play other mediocre teams. Purdue has an assistant coach running the team now that Danny Hope has been fired as head coach.
The Florida bowls have a chance, especially Michigan and maybe Wisconsin, although the Badgers are likely headed to Jacksonville on a three game losing streak. Northwestern has little fan base despite a 9-3 record and that leaves Michigan in Orlando and we'll see if the Wolverines' fans will travel after making it into a BCS bowl a year ago. This could be a tough sell across the Big Ten. Stay tuned.
