Big Ten Baseball Gets Little Respect

The top 30 in the college baseball polls are out this week.  No Big Ten teams to be found and that's not abnormal. Kent State is listed from the MAC but no Big Tenners, including obviously co-champs Illinois and Michigan State, the top two seeds in the upcoming league tournament in Columbus, Ohio.  MSU coach Jake Boss says he doubts more than one Big Ten team will make the 64-team NCAA tournament field which will be announced next Monday.

Frankly I think the Big Ten deserves more spots just because it's a major conference, but others don't think that will have any bearing on selections at all.  I don't think there is any clear cut favorite in this tournament but MSU could play a revenge minded Purdue on Thursday.  The Boilermakers were swept in East Lansing and they didn't think they got all the calls to go their way that weekend.

MSU is 2-4 in its last six Big Ten games so it's not as if the Spartans are roaring into the tournament.  They are 34-19 overall and they struggled against their MAC nonconference opponents and that likely hurt their national standing regarding the polls.  MSU has not made the NCAA tournament since 1979, so that would be a feat in and of itself if it occured.
