Maybe Andrew Maxwell's knee sprain isn't all that serious, but he's a quarterback who has precious little experience in Michigan State's lineup. Kirk Cousins managed to avoid significant injuries during his career even though he took some rugged hits. But is Maxwell's sprain a sign of things to come? You know if there's any doubt next week he'll be held out of practice, and understandably so. But, I don't buy the good news about Connor Cook getting more chances. He's the back up. Maxwell has big shoes to fill and he's the one who needs all the work he can get.
Injuries are part of football and MSU has been fortunate for the most part the past few years keeping its quarterbacks healthy. Drew Stanton got beat up, but Brian Hoyer and Cousins managed to stay on the field for the most part. Any hopes the Spartans have this fall, I still believe, begin with Maxwell's development and now he's sidelined.
