The college sports world continues to change. Michigan and Michigan State play hockey this weekend. MSU placed a half page ad in the newspaper to try and sell tickets. Never thought I'd see that happen. I think back to Ron Mason's days as head coach, now 11 years removed-- and I remember how they used to announce over the P A system all those consecutive sellouts in Munn Arena. And how students could only attend games on either Friday or Saturday night of a particular weekend. Those days seem long gone.
Attendance at MSU games is not confined to just hockey as a problem at MSU. Football is looking for the students and you can buy men's basketball tickets without a problem these days. The world has changed. There is more to do than attend all these games. There are more diversions and the economy and not winning and all that stuff probably figures into the issues. But it sure has changed and you wonder if in hockey anyway, MSU will sell out any games this season including Michigan.
