They could have MSU's NFL Pro Day inside Spartan Stadium Wednesday instead the indoor football arena. The weather is gorgeous and plenty of students are outdoors on campus. It was strictly business indoors, with Mark Dantonio and some assistants looking on, every NFL team was represented by scouts watching 13 Spartans perform and take tests. Those guys were seniors on the MSU team last fall. And there's pressure, I watched the receivers trying to catch passes from a Hillsdale quarterback and when they were off line they couldn't snag them all, and it probably played on those guys' minds with so many NFL eyes looking on. Dantonio looks good, trim, fit, and smiling. Spring practice is in two weeks and he's ready to go. New offensive coordinator Dan Roushar is anxious to rebuild the line and Pat Narduzzi is looking for new linebackers to replace his three departing starters.
I asked about the NFL draft. None of them know what to expect. Some NFL observers believe Greg Jones won't be chosen until the fourth round. Other Spartans just hope to be drafted. Charlie Gantt, the tight end, said if he's not drafted he may become a male nurse and go to medical school. He liked his performance Wednesday but doesn't know if it means he'll be chosen next month or not.
