A Good Souvenir

Michigan State's football players have been given their Nike Pro Combat helmets they wore October 15th, when they beat Michigan 28-14 in Spartan Stadium.  The MSU players have already been given the gloves and jerseys they wore that day.  The helmets are worth $200 apiece and they will be deducted from the $400 value they can receive for their Outback Bowl gifts.  The helmets will commemorate MSU's four straight wins over the Wolverines in the series.  What happens to the balance remaining for playing in the bowl game is unknown at this point.

But it is noteworthy that MSU has beaten Michigan four straight years in football.   And who knows how long the streak will last given that next year's game is in Ann Arbor and the Wolverines are responding to coach Brady Hoke, or so it seems.  MSU will have a new quarterback in that game and the Wolverines should have seasoned veteran Denard Robinson at the helm.

The best bowl gift the MSU players can receive is the trophy that goes to the winner.  MSU has lost five straight bowl games, nine of the last 11 and hasn't won a bowl game in ten years.  The school's all time bowl record is a mere 7-14.
