On the phone and on the air Friday with MSU men's basketball coach Tom Izzo:
He got to work with his entire squad for the first time this off season by NCAA rule on Friday. He says Russell Byrd can begin working out full time next week. He likes Adreian Payne's weight up to 240 and Derrick Nix's weight down to 270.
He was impressed with the military presence of high mucky mucks who attended Thursday's news conference hype session at the New York Athletic Club to push the Carrier Classic November 11th on the ship deck in San Diego against North Carolina. Izzo says the publicity will be tremendous for MSU win or lose and then it's on to New York four days later to face Duke. MSU's freshmen will be their baptism to big time basketball early on believe me.
He likes the MSU football uniform idea from NIKE because only six of NIKE's 80 football schools were chosen to wear the pro combat uniforms for a game and MSU is elite if chosen, Izzo believes.
He doesn't know how the Big Ten will respond if some schools like Texas A&M move to another conference.
He loves college football and is anxious to see how the Spartans fare at Notre Dame on Saturday, after he goes recruiting Friday night.
