the NFL scouts visited the Duffy Daugherty Building on Wednesday to measure and size up 13 departing Spartan football players. I just finished watching the video tape that we shot of guys doing the long jump, vertical jump and various other exercisese, not to mention getting weighed and measured like they are all going into the army. I always say if a school doesn't have any NFL players then it's season probably wasn't very good. MSU has 13 players who wanted to be tested by the NFL but how many will be chosen in the draft beginning April 22nd? And how many will become decent NFL players if any at all? Trevor Anderson, Blair White and kicker Brett Swenson may have a shot, but what about others like Ross Weaver, Jeremy Ware, A. J. Jimmerson, Kendell Davis Clark and the like? Are they practice squad players if even that? MSU finished 6-7 this past season and I always say if there are no NFL players, especially seniors, on a team then its record is probably not what fans hope for. MSU's senior class just doesn't seem to have many high calibre players and even Blair White was a walk on when he arrived in East Lansing. When MSU won the national title in 1966-- four of the first eight overall picks in the draft were Spartans-- and that team went 9-0-1. Easy formula to understand. The better the players headed to the pros, the better the college team's record likely will be. |
